    Project Overview:

This scheme comprised of constructing a new Bellmouth Entrance to provide future access to the Royal Mail Distribution Centre. In summary, we had to remove an existing 3m high stone clad wall, remove existing concrete flag paving slabs, form the new road layout using granite kerbs making allowance for a central island to house the future Royal Mail Gatehouse. Then finally supply and lay new paving slabs, tactile paving at crossings and lay new tarmac surfacing along with new line markings. Within our demise, there were many services running through the footpath where we had to carefully excavate the sub-base by hand and divert the services to accommodate the new road layout. There was also a “Colt” data cable present in the ground that had to be protected and a new chamber built. Despite finding a brickwork culvert running the full length of the job and having to excavate / muckaway on scheduled times, we managed to finish on time to the high standard required from our Client

    Project Challenges & Solutions:

One of the major challenges on this project was the logistics. There was limited space available for laying down materials and receiving deliveries. Our Team had to carefully manage the procurement process to ensure delivery of materials, muck away lorries and skip exchanges were planned in accordance with the sequence of works. We also had to ensure we maintained the safety of the pedestrians during the construction works. We carefully considered the pedestrians safety at all times through the traffic management plan whilst working within the public highway. This area is on a major cyclist route and care needed to be taken with the layout of the works to ensure their continued safety was kept.
